  • [01] ECB raises ELA for Greek banks by 3.3 bln euros

ANA/MPA---The European Central Bank (ECB) on Friday raised the ceiling of emergency liquidity assistance (ELA) provided to Greek banks.

Despite yesterday's dismissal, the Bank of Greece was forced to ask in an emergency teleconference on Friday the increase of the ELA in order to counterbalance large bank deposit outflows. According to bankers' estimates, deposit outflows reached 2 billion euros over the past two days.

ELA was increased, according to sources, by 3.3 billion euros, which is considered sufficient in order to meet the banks' liquidity needs. The ECB's governing council expressed the hope that Monday's summit will end to an agreement.

[02] Emergency Eurogroup meeting to take place on Monday, at 16:00

ANA/MPA---An emergency Eurogroup meeting will take place on Monday, at 16:00, according to European sources.

Earlier in the day, French Finance Minister Michel Sapin said that eurozone finance ministers would meet again ahead of Monday's summit.

"A summit like this is prepared by finance ministers so there will be a Eurogroup meeting to prepare," he said according to Wall Street Journal.

[03] Creditors consider further loan agreement extension, EU sources say

ANA/MPA---Creditors consider giving Greece a further loan agreement extension until the end of 2015, according to European Commission sources. An integral part of this agreement will be to meet Greece's financial needs in relation to its international loan obligations in 2015. According to sources, several issues remain open, mainly fiscal and structural. On his part, the French Finance Minister Michel Sapin said that progress has already been made and that it is time to "proceed with a serious and confidential process," upon which Monday's meeting will be based in order to achieve a "credible, strong and sustainable agreement." Meanwhile, Eurogroup head Jeroen Dijsselbloem confirmed an emergency Eurogroup meeting on Monday, at 16:00.
