  • [01] Alternate Transport Minister on Civil Aviation staff's strike

ANA/MPA---Alternate Minister for Infrastructure, Transport and Networks Christos Spirtzis on Friday will meet with the four unions of the Federation of Civil Aviation Authority (OSYPA) ahead of the 48-hour warning strike they have called for May 31 and June 1.

The federation is protesting against "its degradation by all governments so far' and is asking to be put in a state of emergency due to the economic suffocation and the dramatic lack of staff.

Spirtzis underlined that "there is no issue of flight security during the strike." He also said that the government has secured one million euro funds to address urgent operational issues at regional airports. These issues, he explained, have nothing to do with the maintenance of airways that is smoothly conducted and there is no problem. He also said that there will be 32 job openings for electronic engineers and other relevant disciplines.

OSYPA president Vassilis Alevizopoulos insisted on its statement that regional airports face serious problems and accused the minister of ignorance adding that "their systems collapse one after the other."

He also suggested that the strike may be suspended if there is a dialogue with Spirtzis. "We have not been on strike for 20 years," he stressed.
