[01] Djisselbloem, Padoan say there is progress in the negotiations
ANA/MPA---Eurogroup president Jeroen Dijesslbloem and Italian Finance
Minister Pier Carlo Padoan agreed that significant progress has been made
in the negotiations with Greece during their meeting on Friday in Rome.
"We had a serious exchange of views. Progress has been made on the
dialogue procedures as well as on the agreement on measures that Greece
should undertake. The whole procedure must speed up. On Monday the
discussion will continue and I believe that an agreement will be reached
in a reasonable period of time," stated Padoan.
On his part, Dijesslbloem underlined "in the last weeks there was a
progress and we had a constructive discussion, progress on many issues. We
have not reached an agreement yet and Monday's Eurogroup meeting will
not be determinant. We all understand how urgent the condition is,
and the discussions are fruitful."
Asked on the possibility of a Greek debt restructuring, Eurogroup
president said "Eurogroup's position is that of November 2012. If Greece
completes its programme which is reviewed then the EU countries could
examine the restructuring issue and revise the interest rates. But the
programme must be completed even with changes. However, every night I keep
under my pillow the statements and decisions of November 2012 Eurogroup.
Finally, at an ANA-MPA question on the creditors demand on the layoffs
deregulation and if this position can be reconsidered, Eurogroup president
replied: "I am open to examine new measures but the target should always
be the debt's sustainability and the return to economic growth, recovery
and to Greece's financial independency and stability. I am certain that
we will succeed."
