  • [01] PASOK leader Venizelos speaks in Chalkida, Evia

ANA - MPA -- The Greek people will decide what wil happen the day after elections, PASOK leader Evangelos Venizelos during a speech in Chalkida, on the island of Evia, on Tuesday.

Charging New Democracy that it is trying to "frighten Greek people that if they vote for (main opposition) SYRIZA everything will be lost in the country," he did not spare the main opposition party, either, criticising it for "falsely lulling people into thinking that Europe will wait for us to decide and that it has no objections to unilateral acts, while it calls on Greece not to fulfill specific obligations."

Among other things Venizelos said that those who left the party will not be welcomed back if they do not join it now for elections. In addition, Greek citizens are lost in the lies, he said, but "now is the end of lying, it is the moment of truth."

Recognising the achievements of stability in the economy, he said "it is very important to protect what we all achieved with great labour and sacrifice, the stable ground achieved that will allow us to take another step forward to complete the fiscal programme and move to the preventive credit line," and called on voters to help PASOK become the third party in elections and the guarantor of the country's European trajectory.

[02] Police arrest terrorist Xiros' accomplices

ANA/MPA---Two persons alleged to be accomplices of convicted terrorist Christodoulos Xiros were arrested on Tuesday evening in Kalamata and are being examined by the anti-terror squad.

The two men, a Greek aged 54 and a 37-year-old Albanian, were arrested following an arrest warrant issued by Athens' special magistrate for participation in a criminal organisation, illegal weapon possession, forgery and other criminal offences as well as harbouring a criminal.

The 37 year-old Albanian is alleged to be the one that had rented the house in the Attica coastal suburb of Anavyssos where Xiros was found and arrested.

The two suspects will be led on Wednesday to the prosecutor while the anti-terror squad continues the investigation and new information on the case are expected to be announced within the day.
