  • [01] Freighter with 700 undocumented migrants to arrive to Ierapetra anchorage

ANA/MPA---The Kiribati-flagged freighter "Baris" with approximately 700 undocumented migrants on board is expected to arrive at Ierapetra (Crete) port's anchorage on Thursday morning.

The vessel was located on Tuesday adrift due to engine failure 30 nautical miles southeast of Crete.

The undocumented migrants will be temporarily hosted at Ierapetra indoor sports hall.

[02] Greek government's discussion with the troika will continue

ANA/MPA---The Greek government's negotiations with the troika of the country's lenders on Tuesday and Wednesday in Paris did not reach an agreement, however there were some 'points of convergence".

The continuation of the negotiations was the only point of absolute convergence "We will continue intensively the dialogue with the authorities and we work for the successful completion of the evaluation" said European Commission representative Declan Costello on Wednesday who called the discussion "lively and constructive".

The Greek side referred to 'difficult' and 'tough' negotiations underlining, however, the progress that has already succeeded in order the evaluation agreement to be reached.

According to Finance Ministry's environment, the dominating feeling is that we have made a serious step forward "We made substantial progress in many issues. The progress in some issues is bigger and in others smaller but we have set everything on the table and everything was discussed".

The fiscal gap issue has not closed yet; the Greek side does not accept the existence of a fiscal gap and believes that it succeeded to 'bridge' a very large part of the lenders' so-called gap.

The whole negotiation was repetitively called as "'tough' because everyone supports his positions" and Paris' choice as a meeting site was commented positively by the Greek side.

The points that were not clarified in Paris refer on where and when the negotiations will continue, whether there will be a "Paris-3" and when will the troika return to Athens.

Moreover, it was not specified whether the Eurogroup meeting on December 8 still remains the key-date for the completion of the agreement
