  • [01] Potami leader Theodorakis: The poker game with the Presidential election must stop

ANA - MPA -- The two main parties in Greece have to "stop playing poker" with the issue of the election of a new President and must work together to find a solution, the leader of To Potami party, Stavros Theodorakis, said on Wednesday, after a meeting with Prime Minister Antonis Samaras.

"This instability has to end. The people who are claiming power, Mr (PM Antonis) Samaras and Mr (opposition leader Alexis) Tsipras must come to an understanding and find a solution with mutual concessions," Theodorakis told reporters after exiting Maximos Mansion, adding that his party wants the current Parliament to vote for a President.

Theodorakis also said the Constitution review must happen now and should include changes in the immunity enjoyed by politicians, in the electoral law, an amendment to make electoral districts smaller, a "patriotic solution" for Greece's debt and elections in November 2015.

"The prime minister insists elections should be held in 2016," he said when asked about Samaras' stance, adding the premier appeared committed to the Constitution review. Theodorakis also said he will meet main opposition Radical Left Coalition (SYRIZA) party leader Alexis Tsipras.
