[01] High temperatures drive Athenians to beaches
ANA-MPA - Heatwave temperatures continued on Friday, especially felt
in the city of Athens, with forecasts seeing a slight cooling off only
for northern and western Greece by Saturday.
Athenians not gone on the long-weekend holiday starting with Dormition
day on Friday took to the Attica beaches, as did residents of the
north's largest city, Thessaloniki, who headed to greater distances -
east to the Chalkidiki peninsula or further to beaches in Kavala, and
to the southern shores, in Pieria area.
The weather service forecast a general drop in temperatures on Monday
and Tuesday, with an increase in winds to 6 and 7 Beaufort, which should
bring some relief to the heatwave that marked this week and prompted
warnings by the Athens Medical Association for adequate cover, hydration
and restriction of activities in the open.
