  • [01] SYRIZA appeals to National Council for Radio and Television

Main opposition Radical Left Coalition (SYRIZA) spokesman Panos Skourletis on Monday called on the National Council for Radio and Television (ESR) to investigate how the rider on the mass media - passed recently in parliament - was covered by the television and radio stations and "rule if the non broadcasting of the specific news is in compliance or not with existing radio-television legislation".

In a letter addressed to ESR, Skourletis pointed out that "with only a few exceptions, television stations and news radios broadcasting nationally did not cover the new law on the mass media".

Skourletis noted that a similar observation is included in an open letter by Athens' Journalists Union (ESIEA) addressed to all editors-in-chief on Friday, August 8. According to Skourletis, the ESIEA letter underlined that "the specific issue was downgraded despite its importance and the intense criticism" and that the public should be informed about substantive issues, like media group mergers.

Skourletis also referred to a relevant SYRIZA announcement, noting that it was ignored by the mass media.

[02] Police finds hideout of convicted terrorist Maziotis' accomplices

Police on Tuesday found the hideout of convicted terrorist Nikos Maziotis' accomplices, at an apartment in Patissia, central Athens.

According to information, police has been monitoring the apartment during the past few days. The investigation is underway, while no information has been so far made available as to the police findings.

[03] Two individuals involved in speedboat fatal accident off Mykonos to appear before prosecutor

The water sports business owner and the speed boat driver, involved in the fatal injury of a 10-year-old boy on Monday off the popular Aegean island of Mykonos, on Tuesday will be taken to Syros prosecutor.

According to the latest information, the boy, accompanied by a relative of his, was riding an inflatable a toy in the shape of a sofa – not of a banana as it was originally reported - towed by a speedboat in the Kalo Livadi area of the island. He lost his balance and fell in the sea, and when the speedboat driver turned the craft around to check on him, he injured him fatally with the boat's propeller.

The boy was taken to at the island's health centre, where he was pronounced dead.
