[01] Athens court to rule on PPC strike later on Friday
No rotating power cuts have been planned for Friday afternoon, power
grid operator officials told ANA-MPA, as long as demand remains at
current levels.
Moreover, there have been no changes with the number of units that on
Thursday were taken offline due to the Public Power Corp (PPC) employees
strike. Electricity demand has slightly fallen due to the winds that keep
temperatures low. In case demand rises or production falls, the operator
will proceed with powercuts to prevent the collapse of the system.
On the contrary, it is almost certain that rotating power cuts will take
place later in the evening as demand on the system is expected to peak
during the night, when air-conditioning units continue to be used and
the large number of photovoltaic units installed in recent years are
not generating power.
In the meantime, the Athens First Instance Court is expected to rule
whether the strike of PPC employees' union GENOP is illegal and abusive,
following a motion filed by Public Power Corp (PPC) on Thursday. The
motion will be discussed on Friday at 13.00.
