  • [01] Independent Greeks' leader agrees with SYRIZA on PPC referendum

Independent Greeks leader Panos Kammenos on Thursday morning had a phone conversation with SYRIZA leader Alexis Tsipras on the Public Power Corp (PPC) issue.

Kammenos agreed with Tsipras on the need for the country to hold a referendum on PPC privatization. "We agree with the demand of the majority of the Greek people to endorse a referendum for PPC's sell-off," he said.

He also told Tsipras that the "small PPC is the first step for the concession of energy resources, which must end now."

[02] National centre for administering pensions operational by year-end

Greece's national centre for administering pensions will be operational by the end of 2014, Deputy Labour Minister Yiannis Plakiotakis said on Thursday, aiming for the granting of pensions within days.

Plakiotakis told Parliament the new centre would be staffed with employees from all pension funds, who will have immediate access to the social insurance background of each person insured even when a succession of social insurance funds is involved.

The system will not require the applicant to be physically present and the entire process will begin with an online application for main and supplementary pensions and lump sums.

Plakiotakis was responding to a current question by New Democracy deputy Kostas Markopoulos.
