[01] BoG General Council to discuss the appointment of new governor
The Bank of Greece's (BoG) General Council is expected to meet around
11.00 am on Wednesday to discuss the appointment of the institution's
new governor and deputy governor.
The incumbent governor George Provopoulos' term ends on June 20, while
the tenure of the deputy governor Eleni Louri Dendrinou ends in the next
few days.
According to Bank of Greece sources, Prime Minister Antonis Samaras on
Tuesday had a phone conversation with Provopoulos and thanked him for
his services and contribution, especially during the period of the crisis.
Under the central bank's statute, the premier is expected to propose
Provopoulos and Dendrinou's successors to the General Council, which
will be then asked to decide upon their appointment. The decision needs
to be ratified by a Cabinet Act.
Official announcements are expected later in the day.
