  • [01] Dep.Health Minister: Minimum healthcare protection network for the socially weaker

ANA/MPA---The state should set up a minimum healthcare protection network for the socially weaker strata, Deputy Health Minister Antonis Bezas told ANA-MPA in an interview asked on the government's decision to offer free-of-charge hospitalization to uninsured citizens.

"It is important, especially during in these difficult times, to have a healthcare protection network, which will secure a minimum level of healthcare services to all citizens, regardless of their economic, social and insurance status," he said.

"Uninsured citizens and those who are no longer insured due to debts to insurance funds can be treated in the country's hospitals for free," Bezas noted.

Asked on the conditions for the hospitalization of uninsured citizens, Bezas stressed "there is absolutely no precondition in the sense that there are no economic or income criteria for those who ask for free access to a hospital. The only criteria are medical ones. Their free-of-charge treatment in hospital will be exclusively related to their condition and will be offered by the hospital."

The full interview is available to subscribers at the ANA-MPA website.
