  • [01] PM Samaras: Today is a day of democracy and unity

    ANA/MPA---Prime Minister Antonis Samaras voted on Sunday for the euroelections and for the second round of the local administration elections at the southern Greek city of Pylos.

    Leaving the polling station he made the following statement: Today is a day of democracy and unity to keep the country standing and to move Greece forward.

    The premier will leave for Athens within the next hour.

    [02] Tsipras: Our vote the only way to leave from the winter of the memorandums

    ANA/MPA--Main opposition SYRIZA leader and candidate for the European Commission presidency with the European Left Alexis Tsipras after casting his vote on Sunday for the euroelections and for the second round of the local administration elections at the Athens district of Kypseli said "Today is very nice day, a warm summer day. Maybe, the first Sunday of summer this year. I do not know if this is a sign, but I not that it worth to waste a little of this summer day to vote, particularly the young people" adding that "this is the only way to bring back the summer to our country. Because it is the only way to leave forever from the winter of the memorandums. I am optimistic that we can do it" he concluded

    [03] Venizelos calls Greeks to ignore the sirens of illusions

    ANA/MPA--Government Vice President, foreign minister and PASOK leader Evangelos Venizelos exercised his voting right on Sunday at 10.20 am in Thessaloniki for the euroelections and the second round of the local administration elections.

    After casting his vote Venizelos stated "Today we waiting from the Greek people to express democratically their volition for the future and prospect of the country, for the unity and the country's safety. I hope and wish the Greek citizens to make the choice that really safeguards their interest along with the country's interest and to ignore the sirens of illusion".

    [04] Minor damages from strong quake on Lemnos

    Eleven uninhabited houses collapsed, two churches were damaged whileminor damages were inspected in 13 houses and three schools.

    All infrastructures and roads are fully operational while a 14-member civil engineers unit, including engineers from the Earthquake Planning and Protection Organization (OASP), the Technical Chamber of Greece (TEE) and the School Buildings Organization (OSK), will arrive in the island of Lemnos to assess the damages caused by the earthquake, said and Interior Ministry announcement.

    "Fortunately, it was a strong earthquake without serious damages" said Interior Minister Yannis Michelakis on Sunday from Lemnos.

    On Saturday, main opposition Radical Left Coalition (SYRIZA) leader Alexis Tsipras in a meeting he had with the party's officials was briefed regarding the situation in the earthquake-stricken area, and decided to form a unit consisting of engineers in order to evaluate the earthquake's consequences.

    Tsipras was also briefed on the situation after calling Michelakis.
