  • [01] Four MPs stripped of immunity in relation to Golden Dawn case

    ANA-MPA -- Parliament on Wednesday decided by majority vote to stip the immunity from prosecution of Golden Dawn deputies Nikos Mihos and Giorgos Germenis and of independent MPs Chrysovalantis Alexopoulos and Stathis Boukouras, both originally elected on GD's ticket.

    Out of the 220 deputies participating in the process, 183 MPs voted in favor of lifting Alexopoulos' immunity. In the cases of Mihos and Germenis, 197 deputies were in favor of stripping their immunity from prosecution, while in Boukouras' case the 'in favor' votes reached 182.

    [02] Greece awarded 408 Blue Flags for its beaches in 2014

    ANA-MPA -- Greece has been awarded "Blue Flags" for 408 beaches this year, as announced on Wednesday by the Hellenic Society for the Protection of Nature, which runs the international 'blue flag' programme in the country. With 3.372 beaches receiving the award internationally, Greece thus ranked second among 51 countries.

    The Blue Flags are awarded on a basis of a number of criteria, including cleanliness of the coast and the sea, organisation, information, safety and protection of the coastal environment.
