  • [01] SYRIZA leader in Rome

ANA-MPA/ Main opposition SYRIZA leader Alexis Tsipras is paying a three-day visit to Rome, part of his campaign as candidate for the European Commission presidency.

In the afternoon, Tsipras will meet with the secretary of the Communist Refoundation Party Paolo Ferrero and afterwards he will give a press conference.

On Saturday and Sunday, the leftist leader will participate in the European Left Executive Committee's meeting.

[02] Seismic activity continues on Cephalonia; new light aftershock recorded

A new light aftershock jolted Cephalonia on Friday noon. According to the Geodynamics Institute of Athens the tremor was 4.2 on the Richter scale and its epicentre was again the city of Lixouri.

The quake's depth was located at 5 km and was felt on Zakynthos, Ithaca and in other regions of western Greece.

[03] Germans recognize Greece has changed, FinMin Stournaras says

ANA-MPA/ The Germans realize that much has changed in Greece, Finance Minister Yannis Stournaras said after his meetings in Frankfurt with Bundesbank head Jens Vaidman, Deutsche Bank CEO Juergen Fitschen and German entrepreneurs.

"It was a visit aiming to convey to the Entrepreneurs Club and other interlocutors new data for the Greek economy, both fiscal data and on the external balance and the real economy," Stournaras told the Greek service of Deutsche Welle adding that "the 2013 recession will be below the 4.0 percent target and the primary surplus is well above the target of 812 million euros."

"I am here to knock down the stereotypes for Greece," Stournaras had earlier said in a speech to the Frankfurter Frankfurter Gesellschaft für Handel, Industrie und Wissenschaft (Frankfurt Society for Commerce, Industry and Sciences), according to Deutsche Welle.

The Finance Minister also stressed that Greece has completed more than 85 percent of the fiscal adjustment needed to reduce debt to sustainable levels by 2020 and referred to the progress made in the field of competitiveness. He also called German entrepreneurs to invest in Greece, highlighting the advantages of the country in various fields.

While the German direct investments in Greece are significant, they are still low compared with the potential of the German economy, Stournaras noted emphasizing on the use of renewable energy resources, where Germany has high technical expertise, and on waste management with environmentally friendly technologies.

[04] Moody's upgrades City of Athens rating to Caa3

ANA-MPA/ Moody's Investors Service announced it has upgraded the rating of the City of Athens to Caa3 from C. The rating was assigned a stable outlook in line with the outlook on Greece's sovereign rating.

The credit ratings house attributed the upgrade to the fact that Athens has cured a default on its debt obligations.

According to Moody's, the upgrade is primarily driven by Athens' December 2013 payment of the remaining 675,000 euro interest on arrears requested by ATEbank's liquidation commission in order to fully settle the 29.5 million euro loan it incurred in 2003.
