  • [01] FinMin in meeting with troika over fiscal gap, 2014 measures

ANA-MPA - Finance Minister Yannis Stournaras was in a meeting midday Sunday with the representatives of the troika of Greece's lenders to try and reach agreement for additional fiscal measures for 2014.

Their meeting at the Finance Ministry, where Stournaras is attending with the government's economy officials, was originally scheduled for Friday past but the troika had asked for a two-day extension to collect more data from the General Accounting Office on the budget's execution and the figures for the primary surplus, as well as from the Ministry of Labor.

The focus, according to sources, is on the tax system and closing the budget gap related to insurance funds, which the government insists is 500-700 million euros, while the troika has reportedly assessed it at 2-2.5 billion euros.

Results of the meetings with the Greek government will be conveyed to the November 14 Eurogroup, while the final draft of the new state budget must be tabled in Parliament by November 21 the latest.
