  • [01] Prime Minister Samaras to depart for United States on Saturday

    ANA-MPA -- Prime Minister Antonis Samaras is to depart for the United States at 14:00 on Saturday, where he will have a series of meetings in New York City and Washington DC until next Thursday. He is scheduled to meet with government and financial organizations' officials, Greek-American community representatives, as well as, business and mass media representatives.

    Prior to his departure, the prime minister will have a meeting at the government headquarters with the heads of the EU-IMF troika mission that is currently in Athens.

    On Sunday morning, Prime Minister Samaras is to attend mass at Saint Nikolaos Church in New York, officiated by Archbishop Demetrios of America. Afterward, they will have a private meeting to be followed by a formal reception attended by representatives of Greek-American community organizations. He will also meet with Greek-American community media representatives.

    At 10:30 on Monday, he will address a breakfast meeting with representatives of the American Jewish Congress (AJC) as the guest of its president David Harris.

    On the same day, at noon, he will attend a luncheon with US company CEOs and later on, he will participate in a roundtable discussion with JP Morgan representatives attended by its CEO Jamie Dimon. On Monday afternoon, he will meet with representatives of companies that have expressed interest in carrying out investments in Greece.

    On Tuesday, Samaras will visit Washington DC, where he is scheduled to meet with IMF Managing Director Christine Lagarde at 15:00. Later in the afternoon at 17:30, he will address an event hosted by the Peterson Institute for International Economics, a collaborator of the Stavros Niarchos Foundation.

    On Wednesday, he will have a scheduled meeting with US Vice-President Joe Biden followed by meetings with members of the US Congress and Senate. Among others, he will have a meeting with Senate Foreign Relations Committee Chairman Robert Menendez (D-NJ).

    At 18:30 he will attend the opening of the Art of Byzantium from Greek Collections Exhibition at the National Gallery of Art in Washington DC.

    On Thursday, Samaras will return to New York City and visit the Dow Chemical company offices where he will have a meeting with its President, Chairman & CEO Andrew Liveris. Later in the day, he will meet with Wall Street Journal publishing group representatives.

    At 18:00 on Thursday, he will meet with representatives of the Greek-American community organization Hellenic Initiative, in the presence of former US President Bill Clinton and former political adviser George Stephanopoulos. Members of the Hellenic Initiative are entrepreneurs wishing to invest in Greece.
