[01] On the trail of Aristotle in the Chalkidiki peninsula
ANA-MPA -- A tourism promotion group in northern Greece will present
the first of eight historically-based walks in the Chalkidiki peninsula
on September 9.
The Mt. Athos Area Organisation - which consists of hotel and tourism
owners located near the third leg of Chalkidiki up to where the monastic
community of Mt Athos begins - said on Friday that "Aristotle's Walk"
will start from the EU-recognised Natura 2000 network at Aristotle's
Grove and the Ottoman-era mines and will conclude at ancient Stageira
in Olympiada, where the philosopher was born.
The 22-km trail on the eastern part of the mainland is facing the sea,
the Akanthian and Strymonic Gulfs.
The route will given an opportunity to walkers to see the trees and
plants Aristotle would have identified for his pupil Alexander the Great
and to collect herbs. The first route to be published will be followed
by seven trails promoting the area's natural beauties.
