[01] Power on Santorini partially restored
ANA-MPA -- The power supply on the Aegean island of Santorini, one of
the most popular tourist destinations in the country, was partially
restored by around 8:00 p.m. on Tuesday evening, the Public Power
Corporation announced.
At the same time, 10MW generator sets were being loaded onto a Greek
Navy tank landing vessel to be transported to the island and help boost
production from the local plant until fire damage sustained earlier in
the day is fully repaired.
Generators are also being sent to Santorini from the island of Rhodes
(5MW), Crete (2MW) and Paros (2MW).
Until the generators arrive, different areas of the island are being
supplied in rotation. Santorini and its tiny neighbour Thirasia
experienced a total blackout earlier in the day after an explosion and
a fire at the local PPC plant supplying the two islands at around noon
