[01] Greek banks to return to markets this summer
AMNA--Greek banks could return to international capital markets this
summer, Mihalis Sallas, the chairman of Piraeus Bank, said on Thursday.
Speaking to reporters, after a bank's extraordinary general shareholders'
meeting, the Greek banker said that an international climate towards
Greece has radically changed in the last few months, with positive effects
for the economy. The climate is now more favourable, a difference with
the prevailing climate a few months ago is dramatic he said.
Sallas expressed his optimism over a successful completion of a Greek
banks' recapitalization process, stressing that banks will become a
lever for restarting economic growth in the country. He noted that Greek
banks have already begun distributing capital to small and medium-sized
competitive enterprises with export orientation, or offering added value
to Greek products. amna
Addressing an extraordinary general shareholders' meeting earlier,
Sallas said he was confident that Piraeus Bank will cover a 10 pct
