  • [01] Independent Greeks leader campaigns in Halkidiki

AMNA-- Independent Greeks leader Panos Kammenos lashed out at New Democracy (ND) leader Antonis Samaras and PASOK leader Evangelos Venizelos during a campaign rally in Polygyros, Halkidiki on Sunday night.

Kammenos charged that the ND of Samaras was not the "ND of Constantine Karamanlis that put Greece as an equal member in the Europe of the nations".

"Now, Samaras and Venizelos have put us in the Europe of the loan-shark bankers, of Merkel and Schauble," he said.

Kammenos also charged that an operation was underway to terrorise the voters ahead of the June 17 repeat general elections. "All this terrorisation, that they will oust us from the euro and lead us back to the drachma, to poverty, is not working, for one reason: Because the poverty has already arrived. Because no one can send us out of the euro. Because if Greece leaves the euro, the euro itself and the European Union will collapse. Because we have already paid the euro," he added.amna

On the gold mining investment in Halkidiki, he said: "No to destruction of the environment. Only the enterprises that will ensure the environmental conditions should receive permits. This is Greece. We are not Ghana to spread cancer among the workers and the citizens".amna

He further proposed the introduction of an electronic visa for non-Schengen countries.

[02] KKE leader: Solving the problems not a matter of negotiations

AMNA-- Solving the immense problems faced by the Greek people and Greece is not a matter of negotiations and a "good" negotiator, but "a matter of strategy" and, in that respect "Greece's disengagement from the EU is, objectively, maturing, combined with radical measures inside Greece," Communist Party of Greece (KKE) leader Aleka Papariga said Monday night on private MEGA television station.

"Although this was not the choice of the great majority of the Greek people, they will not set with their hands crossed, they must salvage what they can...In the end we'll wind up beggars in Europe," she added.amna

Asked if a possibility existed for the KKE's participation in a government with SYRIZA (Coalition of the Radical Left), she said "no, because this would destroy our ability to contribute so that the people will press for something better", adding that "the only party that SYRIZA does not want as a partner is the KKE".amna

Due to the aggravation of the crisis, she continued, "either a SYRIZA government will collapse and New Democracy (ND) will, unfortunately, return triumphantly, or an ND government will collapse and a government of the new socialdemocracy will come".

[03] Tsipras: The people are joining SYRIZA

AMNA--Radical Left Coalition (SYRIZA) leader Alexis Tsipras addressed a rally in the city of Livadia on Monday evening, outlining the party's policy positions and expressing certainty that "the people are joining SYRIZA".amna

Criticising the PASOK and New Democracy (ND) parties, Tsipras said: "They are retreating to the margin and the contempt of history, after they looted the country first and then tried to deliver it a hostage to its creditors. They are leaving and they are taking with them the vested interests, the private TV channel owners, the bankers and (German Chancellor Angela) Mrs. Merkel. They are leaving and taking with them the danger-mongering, fear, the insecurity and the desperation of the average Greek."

[04] PM urges Greek shipowners to make new investments

AMNA-- Caretaker prime minister Panagiotis Pikrammenos urged Greek shipowners to support Greece with new investments and new jobs, but also liquidity, in a greeting inaugurating the 23rd Posidonia international shipping exhibition on Monday evening.

"Greece is a traditional maritime country and its merchant marine has played an especially important role in the country's economic and social development, in boosting its reputation at international level, and in its social and regional cohesion," Pikrammenos said, inaugurating the Posidonia 2012.amna

On the Greek-owned shipping's contribution to the Greek economy, Pikrammenos said that from 2000 to 2011, it contributed 154 billion euros to Greece in revenues from transport services, but added that some 40 percent of that amount was re-exported abroad, given that the shipping companies pay for services provided by other countries.

"What is lacking is the necessary policy framework that will create conditions allowing the containment of a larger proportion of the shipping foreign exchange in Greece," the caretaker premier said.amna

On developments in the cruise sector, Pikrammenos said that in the port of Piraeus alone, revenues today exceed 360 million euros, and added: "We want, and can, if we act smartly and methodically, double these revenues to 700 million euros per year, double the number of cruise passengers transiting via Piraeus from 2.5 million today to 5 million passengers by 2016."
