AMNA / The office of Prime Minister Lucas Papademos, head of Greece's interim government, on Thursday issued an announcement officially confirming that agreement had finally been reached on the austerity cuts Greece will impose for a new bailout of 130 billion euros. amna

"Negotiations of the government with the troika regarding the issue that remained open for further processing and discussion were successfully concluded today in the morning. The political leaders agreed with the result of these negotiations. After this, there is general agreement on the content of the new programme in light of tonight's Eurogroup meeting," the announcement said.

Earlier on Thursday, AMNA sources said that agreement had been reached on the final issue on which the party leaders in the coalition government had failed to agree, which was the size of pension cuts. www.amna.gr

According to these sources, PASOK leader George Papandreou, main opposition New Democracy leader Antonis Samaras and Popular Orthodox Rally (LAOS) party leader George Karatzaferis were briefed on the results of the negotiations held until the early hours of Thursday between Papademos, Venizelos and Labour Minister George Koutroumanis with members of the EU-IMF troika after the meeting with the party leaders had ended.

This means that finance minister Evangelos Venizelos, who flew to Brussels earlier in the day, will be in a position to present a finalised, comprehensive agreement to a Eurogroup meeting scheduled for Thursday evening, concerning the austerity programme that will accompany a new loan agreement for bailout funds to Greece. amna
