[01] Taxis on strikeANA-MPA/Taxi owners launched a surprise 24-hour nationwide strike at dawn Wednesday in protest over a decision by Infrastructures, Transport and Networks minister Yiannis Ragoussis to proceed immediately with full deregulation of the closed profession.Since early morning, drivers have lined up their taxis along central Messogion Avenue, near the ministry, although no major disruption has been caused to traffic.ana-mpa MAT riot police were deployed outside the ministry, while it was made known in the morning that a meeting scheduled for Wednesday between Ragoussis and a delegation of taxi owners was postponed because the minister would be taking part in a Cabinet meeting. The meeting may be rescheduled for Thursday, according to sources. The snap strike began at 5:00 on Wednesday morning and will run through 5:00 on Thursday morning. More details on the subscriber's page of ANA-MPA | Subscription request form [02] ASE opening: DeclineEquity prices were declining at the opening of trade on Wednesday on the Athens Stock Exchange (ASE), with the basic share price index down 0.76 percent, standing at 1,278.57 points at 11:15 am, and turnover at 13.632 million euros.Individual sector indices were moving downward with the biggest gains in Health, up 2.83 percent, Constructions, up 1.82 percent and Raw Materials, up 0.85 percent. The biggest losses were in Banks, down 2.17 percent; and Public Utilities down 0.79 percent. The FTSE/ASE 20 index for blue chip and heavily traded stocks was down 1.39 percent, the FTSE/ASE MID 40 index was up 0.07 percent, and the FTSE/ASE-80 small cap index was up 0.08 percent. Of the stocks traded, 26 were up, 27 were down, and 21 were unchanged.
