  • [01] Parthenon pediment removed for restoration

    (ANA-MPA) -- The eponymous Lion's Head pediment from the Parthenon's northeast side is removed on Thursday morning from atop the celebrated Classical Era ancient temple for restoration. The Parthenon, dedicated during antiquity to the goddess Athena, is the most important structure atop the Acropolis in central Athens.

    A specialised crew conducted the operation to remove and lower the marble ornament.

    The entire operation was supervised by the culture ministry's leadership, includind Minister Pavlos Geroulanos and top archaeologists. ANA-MPA / ORESTIS PANAGIOTOU

    [02] ASE opening: Decline

    Equity prices were declining at the opening of trade on Thursday on the Athens Stock Exchange (ASE), with the basic share price index down 0.72 percent, standing at 1,249.92 points at 11:30 am, and turnover at 20.996 million euros.

    Individual sector indices were moving mostly downward, with the biggest gains in Commerce, up 1.77 percent; and Health, up 1.55 percent.

    The biggest losses were in Telecoms, down 2.22 percent; and Personal and Household Goods, down 1.62 percent.

    The FTSE/ASE 20 index for blue chip and heavily traded stocks was down 0.67 percent, the FTSE/ASE MID 40 index was down 0.23 percent, and the FTSE/ASE-80 small cap index was down 0.13 percent.

    Of the stocks traded, 28 were up, 35 were down, and 17 were unchanged.
