[01] ND: PASOK the country's problem(ANA-MPA) -- Main opposition New Democracy (ND) leader Antonis Samaras ruled out any prospect of co-governance with ruling PASOK or collaboration with other parties of the so-called center-right spectrum, in an interview appearing in the Sunday edition of "Kathimerini"."They are not asking us for responsibility, they are asking for complicity. We will not give it to them," Samaras said. He added that it was a matter of time before ND found itself as the ruling party with a clear mandate from a broad majority, while he also said he understands that "the people who are disappointed with PASOK are hesitant before taking the next step in ND's direction". Samaras stressed that the EC-ECB-IMF Memorandum is an example to be avoided, and accused PASOK of being the country's problem. "PASOK is a captive of its own lies and the impasses in which it has entrapped the economy," the main opposition leader said, and ruled out any room for collaboration. (ANA-MPA) More details on the subscriber's page of ANA-MPA | Subscription request form [02] Opposition to cash ceiling(ANA-MPA) -- The Central Union of Greek Chambers on Friday expressed its opposition to the introduction, as of April 1, of a government measure to impose a ceiling of 3,000 euros - including VAT - in all cash transactions in the country, as part of an effort to combat tax evasion.Giorgos Kasimatis, president of the Union, said the measure would add to difficulties already facing Greek enterprises at a time when business activity was hit by both extra taxes and an economic slowdown. Kasimatis urged Finance Minister George Papaconstantinou to reconsider the necessity of the measure and said the Chamber to resort to courts against the measure. (copy-paste) Under the government plan, all transactions between enterprises and with consumers, worth more than 3,000 euros, would have to be made either through bank checks or credit cards. This ceiling will be cut to 1,500 euros from next year.
