(ANA-MPA) -- A train derailment on Thursday evening on an up-until-recently suspended route in southern Greece resulted in one fatality.

A one-coach train travelling on the infrequent Kalamata-Tripolis-Argos route derailed at roughly 10 p.m. local time near the village of Andritsa, in the central part of the Peloponnese province.

Initially three people were trapped in the wreakage. The train was either carrying three passengers and four Hellenic Rail (OSE) employees or four passengers and three employees.

Private cranes were at the site on Friday morning to remove the wreckage.

The specific rail line had been renovated a year ago before reopening, after being suspended in 2004.
