Poulidou) -- Greek foreign minister Dimitris Droutsas, currently on a tour of the Middle East, met Tuesday night with Arab League secretary-general Amr Moussa in Cairo, with both sides urging preservation of the Middle East peace process, warning that its permanent discontinuation could lead to further exacerbation and spillover of the crisis in the wider region. The Egyptian-born Moussa, who heads the 22-member forum representing Arab nations, briefed Droutsas on the League's efforts for a constructive intercession on the Middle East problem. Moussa was cited as stressing that "sincere desire by both sides" is needed to safeguard the peace process, adding that by decision of the leaders of the League's member countries, the peace process has been extended by one month in order to enable investigation and exhaustion of all possibilities of restarting the stalled direct negotiations between Palestinians and Israelis.
