  • [01] Skaramangas Shipyards

    An agreement has been reached on Thursday between the Greek government, ThyssenKrupp Marine Systems and Abu Dhabi Mar on the transfer of shares of the Skaramangas Shipyards and the building of two submarines for the Navy.

    Defence Minister Evangelos Venizelos termed the agreement a "new page for the Navy, the Skaramangas Shipyards and the entire Greek shipbuilding and repairs sector."

    Venizelos further said that tough and arduous negotiations, that were led many times to a marginal point, were held and stressed that the government will not be making any new order for submarines.

    [02] ASE opening: Rise

    Equity prices were rising at the opening of trade on Friday on the Athens Stock Exchange (ASE), with the basic share price index up 0.89 percent, standing at 1,549.54 points at 11:00 am, and turnover at 8.556 million euros.

    Individual sector indices were moving mostly upward, with the biggest gains in Technology, up 3.21 percent; Travel and Recreation, up 1.46 percent and Banks, up 1.03 percent.

    The only losses were in Media, down 2.57 percent; and Industrial Products, down 0.12 percent.

    The FTSE/ASE 20 index for blue chip and heavily traded stocks was up 0.95 percent, the FTSE/ASE MID 40 index was up 0.54 percent, and the FTSE/ASE-80 small cap index was up 0.17 percent.

    Of the stocks traded, 38 were up, 14 were down, and 26 were unchanged.
