[01] Beekeeper arrested in Politeia fire
A 54-year-old beekeeper was arrested by the Fire Department's arson
squad, charged in connection with a forest fire that broke out near
Athens' northern suburb of Politeia on Thursday evening.
The beekeeper was doing upkeep at his beehives, which resulted in the
outbreak of the fire, which destroyed a small forest expanse before
being contained by firefighters late Thursday night.
[02] Decline at ASE opening
Equity prices were declining at the opening of trade on Friday on the
Athens Stock Exchange (ASE) after posting high gains on Thursday, with
the basic share price index down 0.40 percent, standing at 1,602.28
points at 11:30 am, and turnover at 25.721 million euros.
Individual sector indices were moving mostly downward, with the biggest
gains in Chemicals, up 1.77 percent; and Insurance, up 1.50 percent.
The biggest losses were in Industrial Products, down 2.04 percent; and
Oil & Gas, down 1.87 percent.
The FTSE/ASE 20 index for blue chip and heavily traded stocks was down
0.83 percent, the FTSE/ASE MID 40 index was down 0.48 percent, and the
FTSE/ASE-80 small cap index was down 0.57 percent.
Of the stocks traded, 33 were up, 46 were down, and 21 were unchanged.
