[01] Conversing with the spirits of the stonePhotographer Tzeli Hatzidimitriou's book of high-quality photographs, featuring stone structures that are difficult to discern between archaic structures and structures of the last 2-3 centuries, have been published in a poignant album titled "Conversing with the spirits of the stone: Agricultural architecture of Lesvos".Stone, wood and mud -- humble construction materials of the Lesvos countryside -- are depicted in Hatzidimitriou's photographs for the first time in a sojourn across the island from end to end. The album presents the Lesvos landscape, dotted with stone structures representing the occupations of the local residents and imbued with the island's aura, which are not visible to the eye of the unsuspecting by-stander. The pictures are accompanied by sociological texts referring to the habits of the Lesvos residents that resulted in the building of these structures, are written by the photographer herself, who wants to present the art, ardency and passion of the builders, who are no longer among us, and thus refrains from scientific observations and opts instead to unfold the ages-old history of a charismatic land through commentary and visual material.
