[01] Prehistoric findings unearthed in Sikeona settlement in Karditsa
Archaeological excavations in the greater region of Sikeona, Karditsa
Prefecture in central Greece, have unearthed findings dating back to
the Prehistoric Times.
The prehistoric settlement of Sikeona is located north of the Enipeas
River, east of the western part of the Thessaly plain.
In the Neolithic Age the settlement occupied an important place in the
dwelling network of the Karditsa plain linking the eastern section of
the Thessaly plain and Volos Bay with its western part toward the
Pindos Mountain range.
Excavations conducted between 2006 and 2008 unearthed a large number of
tools, ceramics, vessels used for cooking, statuettes and small objects
such as stamps and jewelry.
