  • [01] KKE leader on wildfires

Communist Party of Greece (KKE) Secretary General Aleka Papariga will be addressing a party rally in Nea Makri over the weekend.

Papariga will focus in her address at this seaside resort on the causes of the big wildfires and on her party's positions on handling their consequences.

"When the bourgeoisie class asks for more profits, a strong government and consensus, it is evident that the working people need a strong KKE and a strong movement against the policy of the New Democracy party, of PASOK and their financial supports," said an announcement by KKE.

    [02] Tsipras addresses Coalition's CPC

Coalition of the Left, Movements and Ecology (Synaspismos) President Alexis Tsipras called on his party's Central Political Committee on Saturday to accept his proposal for a special congress.

If the proposal is accepted, the congress will be expected to elect a new leadership.

Inaugurating the Central Political Committee's meeting, Tsipras called on its members to support his proposal and to jointly decide on the party's restructuring.

Tsipras said about himself that he does not have "a contract with the chair of Coalition president but a contract of honour with the Left and its values."

Referring to political developments, Tsipras stressed that "we have a government that is tottering and the only thing with which it is preoccupying itself is if it will have a reshuffle or elections and when."

He went on to say "because at the point where things are standing, it cannot preoccupy itself with anything else, except to save itself from total collapse."

Tsipras placed responsibility on the government for the recent big wildfire in the Attica prefecture and said about the main opposition PASOK party that it has nothing different to say.

The decision on whether or not a special congress will be held is expected to be taken late in the afternoon.
