  • [01] Rescue operation for toddler who fell into irrigation ditch

    A rescue operation was still underway Thursday morning for a 4-year-old Roma boy who fell into an irrigation ditch sluice in the Roma camp in Mavrikas, Karditsa prefecture, the previous night.

    The boy fell into the sluice at 9:00 Wednesday night, and was carried away by swift-moving 2-meter-deep waters.

    The Fire Brigade and EMAK emergency rescue teams immediately rushed to the scene.

    The process of terminating water supply to the irrigation ditch has already commenced, but some eight hours are required for the process.

    [02] ASE opening: Marginal rise

    Equity prices were rising at the opening of trade on Thursday on the Athens Stock Exchange (ASE), with the basic share price index up 0.13 percent, standing at 2,279.11 points at 10:45 a.m., and turnover at 9.9 million euros.

    Individual sector indices were moving mostly upward, with the biggest gains in Chemicals, up 1.79 percent; Food & Beverage, up 1.13 percent; Financial Services, up 1.01 percent; and Public Utilities, up 0.81 percent.

    The biggest losses were in Oil & Gas, down 0.29 percent; and Banks, down 0.23 percent.

    The FTSE/ASE 20 index for blue chip and heavily traded stocks was up 0.26 percent, the FTSE/ASE MID 40 index was up 0.42 percent, and the FTSE/ASE-80 small cap index was up 0.23 percent.

    Of the stocks moved, 70 were up, 20 were down, and 22 were unchanged.
