[01] Five new flu cases aboard Bermuda-flag cruiseship
A Bermuda-flag cruiseship arrived in the port of Piraeus on Friday
morning with four crew members and a passenger testing positive for the
new flu (A/H1N1) virus on board, coming from Turkey.
The captain of the "Ruby Princess", on of the largest cruiseships in
the world, informed the Piraeus central Port Authority shortly after
midnight that five people on board were suffering from the new flu,
asking for medical assistance and clearance for the other 3,389
passengers, 1,192 crew members and himself.
A team of doctors from the Piraeus Prefecture health inspectors
department boarded the cruiseship upon its arrival at Piraeus port at
dawn Friday, where they examined the five patiens, who will be
undergoing treatment in the cruiseship's "medical center", a small but
well-equipped odern hospital, although not in quarantine.
The health inspectors team also allowed the rest of the passengers and
crew to disembark, after written confirmation by the ship's doctor and
captain that no one else had presented symptoms of the flu.
The Ruby Princess arrived in Piraeus from the Turkish port of Kusadasi,
while in the afternoon it is scheduled to set sail for Venice, the next
stop on its itinerary.
