[01] Meeting held on illegal immigration
Alternate Interior Minister for Public Order Christos Markoyiannakis
held a meeting on Wednesday with political party representatives for an
exchange of views on public order issues and mainly on illegal
immigration, for which the minister said it was "a very big problem and
the government's decision is steadfast to have it solved within the
framework of respect for human rights and the creation of a framework
of security for the country's citizens."
It was agreed that the meeting will be repeated next Thursday to enable
the party representatives to study special data that they will be
receiving from the Public Order ministry and the discussion will be
taking place in a specific framework, as the minister clarified.
The meeting was attended by representatives of all parties in
parliament, with the exception of the Communist Party of Greece (KKE).
Markoyiannakis also replied to a question on terrorism, saying that "a
joint front is being created against terrorism by society in its
entirety and by all the political forces."
The minister added that he had been informed about the terrorists'
proclamation and that "in any case, all of us read and assessed with
abhorrence all the things set out by the terrorists in their
proclamation."
