[01] Athens mayor to speak at EIB forum in Barcelona
Athens Mayor Nikitas Kaklamanis on Wednesday departed for Barcelona,
where he will participate in the "European Investment Bank Forum 2009",
on the theme of ?Connecting Europe: Financing Mobility and Sustainable
Cities? (March 12-13).
In his address to a session to be held on Thursday, entitled ?Coming
together: metropolitan and urban infrastructure?, Kaklamanis will refer
to the need to develop infrastructure that will serve the metropolitan
element of European cities, as it is vital to the growth of local
economies, the achievement of greater environmental sustainability and
the strengthening of social cohesion.
Barcelona Mayor Jordi Hereu, City of Istanbul secretary general Mesut
Pektas, European Construction Industry Federation vice-president Luisa
Todini and Council of European Municipalities and Regions secretary
general Jeremy Smith will also speak as members of the panel.
