[01] Papandreou on 'green development', elections
Main opposition PASOK party leader George Papandreou considers "green
development" as being the force of reversal for the country's ills.
Papandreou, who was speaking in an interview with the Athens newspaper
"Kathimerini", said that his party proposes "targeted, longterm planned
and qualitative growth."
He went on to say that "we shall put an end to the state of
unaccountability prevailing in the country's banking system," adding
that "if necessary and if the necessary capital adequacy of banks is
not secured by their shareholders, we shall not hesitate to proceed
with nationalisations."
Papandreou also considers the holding of elections soon a necessity,
stressing that "it is an act of responsibility for us to be requesting
an end to this downhill course."
