    A 16-year-old lyceum pupil was shot in the by an airgun by an unknown assailant late Wednesday night, and was reported Thursday in good health after surhery on the injured hand, police said.

    The teenager was conversing with his friends at Ethnikis Antistasseos Square in Peristeri on Wednesday night when he suddenly had a "burning sensation" in the palm of his right hand.

    The boy was immediately rushed to Metropoltan Hospital, where he underwent surgery.

    Police spokesman Panayiotis Stathis said the shot had been from an airgun, adding that polic were investigating the incident, while the perpetrator still remained unknown.

    [02] ASE opening: Rise

    Equity prices were rising at the opening of trade on Thursday on the Athens Stock Exchange (ASE), with the basic share price index up 0.30 percent, standing at 1,751.85 points at 10:45 a.m., and turnover at 15.4 million euros.

    Individual sector indices were moving mostly upward, with the biggest gains in Health, up 3.91 percent; Mass Media, up 2.97 percent; and Technology, up 1.34 percent.

    The biggest losses were in Personal & Household Goods, down 1.41 percent; Commerce, down 0.95 percent; and Chemicals, down 0.76 percent.

    The FTSE/ASE 20 index for blue chip and heavily traded stocks was up 0.25 percent, the FTSE/ASE MID 40 index was up 1.14 percent, and the FTSE/ASE-80 small cap index was up 0.25 percent.

    Of the stocks moved, 62 were up, 37 were down, and 13 were unchanged.
