Athens Mayor Nikitas Kaklamanis lit the Christmas tree in downtown
Syntagma Square in Athens on Tuesday evening, inaugurating celebrations
that had been disrupted as of last Saturday with the death of the
15-year-old pupil.
"We are here all of us who love this city. Its history and its culture.
All of us who are against violence," Kaklamanis said adding that the
aim is to have the city's commercial centre come to life and smiles to
come again to the lips of children.
After the tree was lit and the fireworks set off in the square, both
the municipal band and the children's choir sang Christmas carrols.
