[01] Alavanos meets with hunger strikers in Chania
Coalition of the Radical Left (SYRIZA) parliamentary alliance leader
Alekos Alavanos, on a visit to Crete, on Saturday went to the public
economic services in Chania where 15 economic immigrants were on their
19th day of a hunger strike demanding their legalization in Greece.
Alavanos was briefed on their condition, and in statements afterwards
said that their demands was just, and called for simplification of the
conditions for their acquisition of a residency permit.
"Their demand is absolutely justified, in other words simplification of
the conditions and the documentation on the basis of which they can
acquire a residency permit. We call on the government to immediately
solve the problem of these 15 people and proceed quickly with
legislative actions aimed at this simplification," Alavanos said,
adding that it was necessary for the migration law to be changed
immediately.
Two of the hunger strikers were taken to hospital in Chania on Saturday
night after they fainted.
