  • [01] PM Karamanlis chairs Inner Cabinet meeting

    The 2009 State Budget will be tabled on Friday morning in parliament. Earlier, Prime Minister Costas Karamanlis will chair an Inner Cabinet meeting. Economy and Finance Minister will present the State Budget in details at a press conference held at the General Accounting Office in Athens. In the afternoon the premier will meet with European Union enviroment commissioner Stavros Dimas.

    [02] ASE opening: Rise

    Equity prices were rising at the opening of trade on Friday on the Athens Stock Exchange (ASE), with the basic share price index up 1.04 percent, standing at 1,835.52 points at 10:45 a.m., and turnover at 13.8 million euros.

    Individual sector indices were moving mostly upward, with the biggest gains in Insurance, up 3.32 percent; Raw Materials up 2.68 percent; Banks, up 2.67 percent; Construction, up 2.66 percent; and Public Utilities, up 2.32 percent

    The only losses were in Travel & Recreation, down 1.34 percent.

    The FTSE/ASE 20 index for blue chip and heavily traded stocks was up 1.48 percent, the FTSE/ASE MID 40 index was up 1.46 percent, and the FTSE/ASE-80 small cap index was up 1.16 percent.

    Of the stocks moved, 84 were up, 19 were down, and 21 were unchanged.
