  • [01] KKE leader on Euroelections

Communist Party of Greece (KKE) leader Aleka Papariga called on the Greek voters to "drive a big stake in the heart of the European Union and the political parties that back its policy" in the upcoming European Parliament elections, adding that the two parties in Greece -- referring to the ruling New Democracy and main opposition PASOK -- that colluded in the decisions for and implementation of the EU policy should "suffer a debacle, they should be crucified".

Speaking at a press conference on Monday in Athens on the KKE central committee's recent proclamation on the Europarliament elections, she also called on the "popular forces" to "push aside SYRIZA (Coalition of the Radical Left parliamentary alliance) and LAOS (Popular Orthodox Rally) because they are parties of the Euro-one-way-street and their differences with the EU policies are secondary and lacking substance".

She specifically accused SYRIZA of "having said 'yes' to crucial choices, such as the Maastricht Treaty, while the 'no' it is saying now on the Euro-Treaty is hypocritical and misbegotten", adding that SYRIZA was facing the European Union "like the soap opera 'Ugly Betty', desiring a better showcase for the EU".

Regarding LAOS, Papariga said it was a party with a nationalistic ideology which, whenever it protested, did so because "it wants a larger share inside the EU and the urban class, because it is in favor of a Magna European Union, just as it is in favor of the Magna Grecia, and is characterised by a typical, shallow and substance-less anti-Americanism".

She further called on the popular forces to not manifest indifference to and abstention in the Euro-elections, but on the contrary to vote for the KKE, so that the upcoming European Parliament elections "will comprise the beginning of a new course for change of the correlations inside the country as well".

She added that the KKE was in favor of weaking of the EU with conditions of rift and reversal, and strengthening of the party in the Euroelections would comprise a landmark for the re-deployment of a powerful popular movement, and contribute to the awakening and preparedness of the Greek people to face future anti-popular governmental collaborations.

    [02] Green Entrepreneurship

An event titled "Green Entrepreneurship: Greek Ideas, Innovation, Products and Technical Know-How in the Global Battle for the Environment" opens in Athens on Tuesday, inaugurated by foreign minister Dora Bakoyannis.

The event is oorganized by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, in cooperation with the National Technical University, the Union of Hellenic Chambers of Commerce, the Technical Chamber of Greece and the Federation of Greek Industries, with the support of the Universities of Piraeus and Patras, the American-Hellenic and British-Hellenic Chambers of Commerce, and Greenpeace.

The aim of the conference is to record innovative Greek ideas, the presentation of Greek enterprises and the scientific research of Greek professors and research centres that provide innovative products, technical know-how and technology for the confrontation of the climate change in a global level as well as the evaluation of the cooperation potentials and financing of the ?Green Entrepreneurship?.

Deputy Foreign Minister Petros Doukas stressed on Monday that the environment can become a strong card in the hands of Greek economic diplomacy, announcing the first of a series of conferences that will be held at the foreign ministry on "Green Entrepreneurship."

The event will be inaugurated by Foreign Minister Dora Bakoyannis, followed by addresses by Doukas, Parliament President Dimitris Sioufas, Development Minister Christos Folias and Minister of State Theodoros Roussopoulos.

The "green" products and services that will be recorded will constitute a new dynamic part of business missions and will boost the Greek economy's extroversion, according to Doukas.
