[01] PASOK leader addresses ENAE conference
Main opposition PASOK leader George Papandreou addressed the 12th
regular conference of the Union of Prefectural Associations of Greece
(ENAE), in Drama, northern Greece, on Thursday evening.
In his address, Papandreou said that a basic prerequisite for the
effective functioning of local government is the securing of funds and
competencies, at the same time underlining that to date, the New
Democracy (ND) government ?is not distinguished by consistency of words
and actions.?
The PASOK leader noted that to date, the government has shown that ?it
is not interested" in the future of the institution of Prefectural
Local Government, concluding, ?it has not the will.?
Papandreou presented his partyâs program for an "independent,
unattached" Prefectural Local Government ?which will be based on the
restructuring and decentralization of the state.?
