[01] Parliament com't ratifies bill for fire-stricken
The Parliamentary Economic Affairs Committee on Wednesday ratified a
bill containing legislative decrees providing relief for
wildfire-stricken people last summer.
The bill was backed by the deputies of ruling New Democracy party, main
opposition PASOK and the Popular Orthodox Rally (LAOS) parties.
Deputy Finance Minister Nikos Legas referred to a programme concerning
the full restoration of 2,500 buildings in wildfire-stricken regions,
with a cost totalling 150 million euros.
"The government took a series of measures, in many cases overcoming
bureaucratic practices that create delays to enable an immediate
response on the part of the state to the needs of our fellow people,"
Legas said.
