Tourist arrivals in Greece are expected to grow by 5.0 percent in 2008, the same as tourism foreign exchange revenues, Association of Tourism and Travel Office of Greece (HATTA) president Yiannis Evaggelou announced on Friday.

Evaggelou told reporters during the 23rd Philoxenia fair in Thessaloniki that improved foreign exchange revenues will reflect higher quality products and services in the tourism sector.

He underlined that high-end hotels recorded a 10 percent increase; sea cruises grew by 20 percent; yachting rose by 15 percent and conference tourism was up 15 percent.

Evaggelou said this was the result of strategic planning by both the state and the industry, which spent around 2.5 million euros. Commenting on incoming tourism, Evaggelou noted a significant increase in the number of US tourists (35 pct) and Russian tourists (16 pct).
