[01] Prime Minister Karamanlis departs for Lisbon for informal EU
summit
Prime minister Costas Karamanlis left Thursday morning for Lisbon,
where he will attend a two-day informal EU Summit.
According to minister of state and government spokesman Theodoros
Roussopoulos, the informal summit will review the final text of the
European Union's 'reform treaty' that has been submitted by the
Intergovernmental Conference (IGC), after a decade-long process, and
has been drafted on the basis of the rationale agreed on in a previous
summit.
EU leaders hope to agree on a "Lisbon Treaty" aiming to reform the
Union's institutions. The leaders will also examine the Lisbon
Strategy, with emphasis on its external dimension with respect to
Europe's position in the age of globalisation, mainly on matters
concerning the financial markets and climate change.
