[01] Re-elected prime minister Karamanlis' new government sworn in
The newly-relected government of prime minister Costas Karamanlis was
sworn into office on Wednesday morning, during a special ceremony at
the Presidential Mansion, in the presence of President of the Republic
Karolos Papoulias.
The prime minister and his 40-member New Democracy (ND) government --
17 ministers and 40 deputy ministers -- were sworn in during a ceremony
officiated by Metropolitan Prokopios of Nea Krini and Kalamaria,
standing in for Archbishop Christodoulos of Athens and All Greece, who
is currently in the US for health reasons, where he is due to undergo a
liver transplant.
The new Cabinet afterwards walked to the nearby Maximos Mansion
(government headquarters) in downtown Athens, where it will hold its
first session, chaired by the prime minister.
