[01] Climate of uncertainty still prevailing in EU summit over treaty
Talks were continuing late on Friday night at the European Union Summit
in Brussels, in a climate of uncertainty over reaching a compromise
agreement which could give the union the possibillity of proceeding to
an Inter-governmental Conference for a new EU Treaty replacing the
European constitution.
All day long, German Chancellor and current EU President Angela Merkel
had successive meetings with the Polish leadership, in an effort to
find a compromise solution on the issue of the distribution of votes of
every member-state in decisions-making by the Council of Ministers.
EU leaders were expected to continue talks during their dinner late
Friday night.
