[01] Carnival celebrations held throughout Greece on SundayEvents marking the last weekend of Carnival before the start of Lent culminated around Greece on Sunday, with the biggest celebrations held in the western port city of Patras. The Carnival was held in mostly rainy and windy weather throughout the country. The Carnival in Athens was held in the suburb of Moschato. The Carnival in Xanthi constituted one of the biggest celebrations throughout northern Greece. [02] Greek Police Chief in FranceGreek Police Chief Lieutenant-General Anastasios Dimoschakis concluded an official visit to France on Saturday with a meeeting with Greek Ambassador in Paris Dimitrios Paraskevopoulos. Dimoschakis briefed the Greek ambassador regarding the placement in the Greek Embassy in Paris of a liaison officer who will assume his duties during the first ten days of March.According to a press release by the Public Order Ministry on Sunday, also discussed at the meeting were matters concerning the issue of passports by the Greek Consulate there, as well as general problems faced by Hellenism in France. (ANA-MPA file photo of Greek Police Chief Lieutenant-General Anastasios Dimoschakis) [03] Traffic measures for return of excursionistsTraffic police were on the alert on Sunday in the country's national highways and urban regions so as to facilitate drivers and pedestrians in view of the Carnival celebrations and the Clean Monday religious holiday. Traffic measures are being taken in central Athens and the suburbs, ports, railway and bus stations and airports to facilitate pedestrians and vehicles.At the same time, traffic police are posted at all the main junctions of the national highways, while police patrol cars and motorbikes are stationed in the Attica Basin for the prevention of accidents. Traffic police crews are also checking violations, such as speeding, driving under the influence of alcohol and drugs, dangerous manoeuvering, violation of traffic lights and the non-use of safety belts and helmets. The police are also appealing to parents to place their children in the back seat of the car and for drivers not to make use of mobile phones.
