Prime Minister Costas Karamanlis was briefed by Foreign Minister Dora Bakoyannis here on Friday, following her two-day visit to the northeastern border province of Thrace earlier in the week.

Foreign policy issues were also discussed during the meeting at the premier's Maximos Mansion office, although no specific statements were made afterwards.

Meanwhile, in brief statements after her meeting with Karamanlis, Bakoyannis dismissed criticism by main opposition PASOK over her tour of the province, in answer to a press question.

"(The tour) was not an exercise in foreign policy. The foreign minister is an important government official and has the ability to tour all of Greece. I regret the fact that I have caused worry for PASOK, but I imagine that it (PASOK) will be able to survive it."

She also roundly criticised PASOK's no-confidence motion against the government in Parliament late last week, saying a handful of opinion polls this week show that the suprise political development failed to generate a majority of the public's backing.
